Hard Drive Destruction FAQs

Do I need to prepare anything prior to my hard drive destruction service?

Prior to the hard drive destruction service, hard drives need to be removed from the tower or laptop, then simply arrange a collection and we’ll take care of everything else. Our service ensures your hard drives remain secure from the moment they’re picked up and stored in tamper-proof containers, to the minute they’re destroyed by our hydraulic crusher or shredder.

What happens to my hard drive after it is destroyed?

Shred-it's destruction machines are specifically designed to destroy your hard drives so that data can never be retrieved or reconstructed. Once your hard drives have been destroyed and your data is secure, materials will be securely recycled with approved partners and you’ll receive a certificate of hard drive destruction.

Where is my hard drive stored before it is destroyed?

Shred-it applies the same proven, state-of-the-art, chain of custody protocols for hard drive destruction as we do for document destruction, ensuring safe, secure destruction of your media. This means from the moment we collect your hard drives, up until the moment they’re securely destroyed – the latest technologies ensure end-to-end tracking of your hard drive, with tamper-proof containers on-site and locked trucks and secure containers keep information safe in transit.

Why do I need to shred a hard drive?

If your hard drive disposal process includes erasing, reformatting, wiping or degaussing old hard drives, you and your customers are still vulnerable. In fact, if the drives are physically intact, private information can still be retrieved. Our hard drive destruction services ensures data can’t be retrieved so your business stays protected.
